Obituary

Robert E. "Railroad Bob" Pechman, age 84, of Oshkosh, went home to heaven on Friday, July 30, 2010, after a short stay at Evergreen Retirement Community. Born on May 4, 1926 to John and Dorothy (Skinner) Pechman, Bob married Arleen Diedrich on September 29, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa.
As a young man, Bob served his country with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. Later he worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad with freight and passenger trains from Milwaukee to Green Bay for 36 years. Bob was also a part-time employee at the former Beverage Mart.
Bob was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. After retirement, Bob excelled at smoking and grilling meats, jerky making, garlic bread, and spicy pretzels. Never to pass up an independent meat market or cheese shop, Bob was a regular visitor at the Oshkosh Farmer's Market. Keeping his family and friends supplied, he was always on the lookout for produce in season, especially asparagus, corn, tomatoes, melons, berries, and hickory nuts.
Favorite activities included deer hunting, fishing, and playing cribbage at the Oshkosh Senior Center and South Side Ice Yacht Club. He was a member of the Upper Lakes Fishing Club and worked the annual kids fisheries at Marble Park in Winneconne. Bob could be found volunteering at the Salvation Army Noon Lunch Program and at the monthly breakfast meetings in Fond du Lac with fellow retired railroad men.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Arleen Pechman of Oshkosh; loving children, Christine Farvour of Oshkosh, David (Linda) Pechman of Fond du Lac, and Robin (Tom) Doemel of Waupaca; grandchildren, Sarah (Jon) Hammond, Rachel (Loren) Covill, Reverend Brian (Angie) Pechman, Amy Pechman, Troy (Kim) Pechman, Andy Doemel, and Natalie (fiancé, Kenny Myszka) Doemel; 10 great-grandchildren, four nieces and a nephew. Preceding Bob in death is his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Arthur Timm; a sister, Joyce Krause Schreiber; a grandson, Jason David Pechman; and a special friend, Herman Weigandt.

A time of visitation and sharing of memories will held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Private family inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established. A special thank you to Dr. Albert Fisher, Reverend Paul Lidtke, and the caring staff of Evergreen Retirement Community and Heartland Hospice.
Praise and thanks to the Almighty for Bob's earthly life. By God's grace, Bob was a believer and a child of God. God's children never die. "I am the resurrection and the life…whoever lives and believes in me will never die." John 11:25-26
