Ronald J. Reetz, age 80, of Oshkosh, died Monday, December 22, 2008 after a short illness. He was born in Oshkosh on March 9, 1928 to Carl and Ruth (Purdy) Reetz. Ron married Dolores Jensen on January 24, 1953 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark, Wisconsin.
A graduate from Denmark High School in 1946, Ron served his country during the Korean War, stationed in Chechon and Wonju, Korea, and later in Tokyo, Japan.
In 1957, Ron received his B.S. Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and took a position with the Winnebago County Department of Social Services. In 1962, he received his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Ron became the Deputy Director of the Social Services Department in 1970 and held that position until his retirement in 1989.
Ron was one of the original founders of the Big Brothers Program of Winnebago County, serving as its President in 1970. He was on the United Fund Budget Panel and a loyal volunteer for the American Red Cross, receiving their Volunteer of the Year Award in 1995. He served on the Board of Directors for the New Horizons Drug & Alcohol Abuse Agency and was a volunteer for the EAA for many years. Ron was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh for over 10 years.
Being an avid sportsman, Ron especially looked forward to the pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota every year with several of his very good buddies.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Dolores Reetz of Oshkosh; a son, Scott Reetz of Littleton, Colorado; a daughter, Karen (Jeff) Bluhm of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Luke Reetz, Ryan Reetz, Megan Reetz, Nathan Bluhm, and Alyssa Bluhm; three brothers, Gerald (Rose) Reetz, Wayne (Eleanor) Reetz, and Jim (Carla) Reetz, all of Appleton; and a sister, Gail Reetz of Appleton. Preceding Ron in death are his parents and a sister, Betty Lou Ruth.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1860 Wisconsin Street, with Reverend Kemp Jones officiating. Interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 North Eagle Street, and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
