Rosalind "Rosie" Smerling, age 81, of Omro, died Sunday evening, September 27, 2009, at Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI. She was born January 27, 1928 in New Holstein, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Amelia (Pitz) Salm. Rosie married Robert Smerling on June 25, 1955 in New Holstein. She had taught in the Berlin Catholic Schools for many years. Rosie had many passions in life. She enjoyed reading, sitting on the beach, swimming, nature and farm life, wine, musical theatre, traveling and an occasional casino trip. Family was important to her; she always enjoyed her family and as most grandmothers, her grandchildren.

Rosie is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her children, Rosanne Smerling and Barbara (Timothy) Schilcher both of Oshkosh, Bob, of the town of Rushford; grandchildren, Courtney (Shane) Johnson and David Smerling; great grandson, Jordan Johnson; brothers, Peter (Lillie) Salm, Robert (Kitty) Salm; her loyal dog, Schatzi; 2 granddogs, Elsa and Winston; sisters in law, Katie and Rosemary Salm; many other special relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; sons, David and Timothy; brothers and sisters, Jerome, Alfred, Theresa, Sr. Boniface and Joseph.

In respect to Rosie's memory, the family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr., Winneconne, from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 P.M. with Fr. Doug LeCaptain officiating. Rosie's children would like to thank family and friends for all the love and support shown to Rosie over the years. A memorial is being established in her name.
