Roy J. Plansky (RJ), age 96, of Omro died on Wednesday, June 6, at his home in Omro, WI.
He was born on August 7, 1915 in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph and Bertha Plansky. On March 17, 1925, he and his family moved from Chicago and settled in Omro. After serving 3 ½ years with the Army in England and France during World War II, Roy married Kathryn C. Krause (deceased) of Berlin, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Berlin on June 15, 1946.
Roy graduated from Omro High School and earned his degree from the University of Minnesota in 1936. For many years he operated both Plansky Funeral Home (on Huron Street) and Plansky Furniture Store in Omro, along with his father. The furniture store was sold October 30, 1963, and shortly after that time Roy purchased his own funeral home located at 425 Jefferson Avenue, Omro, WI (currently Kwiatkowski Funeral Home) which he operated until his retirement in 1977.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Omro and was active in the community as a member of the Parent Teacher's Association, Omro School Board, the Kiwanis Club, Omro City Council, and other civic organizations. He spent many years on the Board of Directors for the Winnebago County Bank (currently Citizens Bank-Omro) and later became President and Chairman of the Board.
In his retirement Roy pursued his hobby of golf, both on leagues at Utica and Westhaven golf courses in Oshkosh, and during annual winter vacations with Kathryn in Florida. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him and we will miss his amazing sense of humor, wonderful fatherly advice and positive outlook on life.
Roy and Kathryn were married for 65 years. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2011 at age 93. Roy is survived by four daughters and one son: Jeanne (Richard) Crone of Delafield, WI; John (Jane Lindsey) of Rochester, MN; Mary (Dean) Glicksman of Monument, CO; Joan (Tim) Brown of Madison, WI, and Kathryn (Greg) O'Connor of Sherrard, IL. He is further survived by nine grandchildren: Dana and Alex Nicholson, Sherrard, IL; Max, Kevin, and Joey Neuzil (triplet grandsons), Monument, CO; Stephanie and Alex Brown, Madison, WI, and Monica and Andrew Crone, Delafield, WI. Roy was preceded in death by his sister Ethel M. Plansky, Oshkosh, WI.
The Plansky family would like to thank Roy's longtime doctor and friend, Dr. Ammar Alzoubi, Aurora Medical Center, Oshkosh, for helping him to live a long and gratifying life. We are also extremely grateful to the dedicated caregivers that allowed our Dad to stay comfortably in his own home including: Shasta, Gennie, Laurie, Sharron, Tina, Mary, Pam, Sandy, Lucy (deceased), and Gail. We recognize that you gave up time with your own families to care for our Dad and we sincerely appreciate all you did and the sacrifices you made. In addition, we appreciate the support and care provided by Bev and the hospice team from Aurora Visiting Nurses, Oshkosh, WI.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with a service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial at Omro Cemetery will follow.
