Obituary
Rubena M. Hansen, age 93, of Oshkosh, died Thursday morning, March 3, 2005 at Bethel Home. She was born on May 30, 1911 in Poy Sippi to James and Mary (Christiansen) Jorgensen. Rubena married Edward Hansen on September 22, 1937 and he preceded her in death on October 22, 1999.
Rubena attended Copenhagen Country School and graduated from Berlin High School. She then attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska and received her B.A. Degree in Education from UW-Oshkosh. Rubena taught in the Borth and Oshkosh Public School Systems. Until her residency at Bethel Home in 2000, Rubena was an active member of Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her activities included teaching Sunday and Bible School, Women's Circle, Bible Study Groups, and tying quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She was a Past-President of Bethel Home Auxiliary. Tutoring Laotian families in English was one of her favorite activities.
Survivors include two daughters: Lois (Larry) Bornemeier of Danbury, Connecticut and Carol Hubert of Round Lake, Illinois; grandson Darren (Nancy) Bornemeier and great-granddaughter, Abigail, and great-grandson, James, of New Berlin, Wisconsin; grandson Daryl (Wendy) Bornemeier and great-grandson, Jacob, of Sacramento, California; sisters-in-law: Alice Jorgensen of Ripon and Gladys Jorgensen of Poy Sippi, as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding Rubena in death are her husband, parents, infant daughter, two sisters: Elsie Nipko and Mildred Godson, and seven brothers: Leon, Melvin, Norman, Tom, Vernon, Ray, and Sidney Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1860 Wisconsin Street, with Reverend Arnold Stilwell officiating. Interment will follow services at Poy Sippi Cemetery. Neighbors and friends may greet the family on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, may be given to Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church or Bethel Home in Rubena's memory.
