Ruth I. Fuchs, age 89 of Oshkosh, died at Bethel Home on Friday, November 16, 2007. She was born in Oshkosh to Ely and Helen (Schaefer) Oxholm on May 26, 1918. On September 1, 1939 she married George Sheffer, who she had met while dancing at the Eagles Club; he preceded her in death in July of 1954. On December 27, 1958 she married Richard "Dick" Fuchs; he preceded her in death in June of 1997.
Ruth was a very active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church serving as treasurer, edited the "Chit chat" section of the church newsletter. She was the first Tupperware distributor in the Northern half of Wisconsin. Ruth was an avid gardener; she loved to sew, and had been a member of the same cribbage league since 1959.
Ruth is survived by her children: Sandee (Robert) Nelson, Reverend Susan B. (Tom) Sheffer-Meyer, Steven C. Sheffer, Sheila L. Alvarez, and Barbara J. (Karl) Wege; grandchildren: James (special friend, Jaclyn Liebelt) Wagner, Wendy (Nathan) Larson, Amy Alvarez, Alfonso "Tony" (special friend, Theresa Domnie) Alvarez, Joel Porst, Jason (Robin) Porst, Lynne (Terry) Gruel, and Laurie (Roger) Knudson; great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Jacob Gruel, Lindsay Porst, and Erik and Zachery Knudson. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Beatrice Oxholm, and niece Barbara Oxholm. In addition to both husbands Ruth is preceded in death by: daughter-in-law, Darlene Jackson Sheffer; brother, Norman Oxholm; son-in-law, Alfonso Alvarez; and an infant sister Dorothea Oxholm.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1860 Wisconsin Street. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Ellenwood Cemetery.
