Seraph (Kappy) Kaprelian died May 6, 2007, at Aurora Hospital after a short illness. He was born February 22, 1920, in Adana, Turkey, the son of Harry Kaprelian and Margaret Jalotian, and he entered the United States with his family in 1923, where they settled in Racine, Wisconsin. Seraph was very proud of his Armenian heritage, especially proud of his parents who had survived the Armenian genocide of 1915 perpetrated by the Turkish government.

He had just started undergraduate classes at the University of Wisconsin Extension in Racine when World War II broke out; he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent four and a half years in North Africa, Italy, and Austria, returning in 1945 to complete his undergraduate degree three years later, followed by a Master of Science degree in the late 50s, both at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. While a student there he met his wife, Patricia McKeough, and married her in 1950. His entire working career was devoted to the teaching of mathematics and science, first at South Park Junior High School from 1948 to 1972, and then at Oshkosh West High School until he retired in 1985. For several years after leaving the high school he taught math at Fox Valley Technical College.

Seraph enjoyed gardening and working outdoors, especially among his fruit trees, and was an avid reader of biography and history. He served as a docent in the EAA museum for over twenty years and delighted in doing science demonstrations for elementary school children.

Seraph is survived by his wife, Pat, his son, James Kaprelian (Elizabeth), and his three grandchildren, Erin, Sarah and Brain Kaprelian, all of Oshkosh. Only one member of his immediate family is still living, a brother, Dr. George Kaprelian (Mickey) of Sunnyvale, California. A number of nieces and nephews also survive Seraph: Dr. Brad Kaprelian (Lindi) of Sunnyvale, California, Peggy Chordegian and Jane Marie Schatzman (James) of Racine; Patricia Wasserstrass (John) of Beloit, Erik M. Moeser (Carol) of Menomonee Falls, Robert A. Moeser (Barbara) of Boston, Massachusetts, and Judith M. Hendershot of Chicago, Illinois.

On Thursday, May 10, 2007 friends may visit with the family at First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Boulevard, Oshkosh, from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of a memorial service there at 11:00 A.M.

Please, no flowers. A memorial has been established at First Congregational Church and contributions may also be made towards the Strong Kids Campaign at the YMCA.

Seraph will be buried in Lake View Memorial Park after a private service for the family.

Condolences may also be given online at www.seefeldfuneral.com.
