Obituary

Shirley A. "Stewie" Heppner, age 81, of Pine River, died Monday afternoon, April 23, 2018, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. Born on November 18, 1936, in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of Onel and Gena (Throne) Steward, Shirley married Donald Heppner on May 18, 1957, and he preceded her in death on January 23, 2010.

Growing up, Shirley ran the Heppner Food Store in Glenview, Illinois with her husband and after selling the store, they moved to Oshkosh where they purchased Edison Estates Mobil Home Park. She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church of Poy Sippi, where she enjoyed quilting for the church missions. Shirley was the State Senior Bowling Tournament Champion and National Doubles Champion in 1984. She also enjoyed golfing, painting, crafts (especially Rose mauling), playing the organ, feeding the birds, and making baby hats for the hospital. During the winter, Shirley and Don traveled to Florida in their Airstream, escaping Wisconsin cold weather. She was a member of the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include her sister, Evelyn Psenicka; two brothers-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Heppner and George Ruesch Jr.; nieces and nephews, Susan (Dan) Ziegler, Nancy (Norm) Reichenberger, Michael (Deborah) Psenicka, Douglas (Vicki) Psenicka, William Psenicka, James Ruesch, and Linda VandeMotter; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews. Preceding Shirley in death is her husband; parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elsie and Charles Heppner; her sister, Dorothy Ruesch; her brother-in-law, Stanley Psenicka; her sister-in-law, Betty Heppner; her niece, Kathryn Goetting; and a great-nephew, Ben Goetting.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in Emmaus Lutheran Church, W2185 County Road H, Poy Sippi, Wisconsin, with Reverend Mark R. Meier, Sr. officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Online condolences to the family may be given at www.seefeldfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials to your local humane society would be much appreciated in Shirley's memory.
