Obituary

Shirley E. Puestohl, age 79, of Oshkosh, died Thursday morning, May 7, 2009 at her home. Born on August 7, 1929 in Oshkosh to George and Cecelia (Montag) Kempinger, Shirley married Rodney Puestohl on July 29, 1950 in Oshkosh. Rodney preceded her in death on October 20, 1997.
A graduate of Oshkosh High School, Shirley attended and graduated from Constance School of Cosmetology in Oshkosh, where she also taught, until she and Rod started their business of owning and operating beauty salons. Shirley loved her career as a hairdresser, still serving a few faithful customers just a week prior to her death. A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, her greatest joys were playing sheephead and bingo with friends, and any activity involving children, who knew her as "Grandma Shirley". An avid gardener who loved to cook her fresh vegetables and meals for her family, open to many who stopped by. Daily crossword and Sudoku puzzles, going to movies, boating and fishing, and trips by car or driving her own motorcycle, along with enjoying her property in Poy Sippi, helped to keep Shirley young and active. She volunteered at the Salvation Army and the St. Jude Food Pantry; Shirley lived her life exemplifying friendship, service, love, and care to her family and friends. She will truly be missed by many.
Left to mourn her passing are a son, Jay Puestohl of Oshkosh; a daughter, Cheryl Forster of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Carmen (Joshua) Alberts and Caitlain Forster, both of Boise, Idaho, Mark Puestohl and Nicholas Puestohl, both of Oshkosh; two sisters, Sue (Jay) Pistohl of Oshkosh, and Judith (Jerome) Bauer of Oshkosh; a brother-in-law, Richard LeBeck of Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Shirley in death were her husband, parents, and a sister, Mary LeBeck.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Jude the Apostle Parish (Sacred Heart site), 519 Knapp Street, with Reverend Joel Sember officiating, assisted by Deacon Fred Fischer.
