Tom E. Marquart, 93, of Oshkosh, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born November 12, 1915 in Oshkosh to Earl and Ethel (nee Johnston) Marquart. Tom grew up on the north side and attended Oshkosh State Teachers College. He married the former Audrey Reider on January 2, 1939 in Appleton. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2000.
Tom joined his father working at Oshkosh Millwork, which later became Marquart Millwork and included Tom's brother, Dick. Tom became president at a fairly young age when his father passed. He held that title until his death. He had many affiliations with the lumber industry including serving as president of the Northern Sash and Door Jobbers Association.
He volunteered his time with the Junior Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of the Oshkosh National Bank and was a long standing member of the Oshkosh Elks Club and the Oshkosh Masonic Lodge. Tom was proud of his years of giving blood donations for the American Red Cross, ending that tradition only because of an age restriction. He was a former member of the Oshkosh Country Club and Oshkosh Power Boat Club. As a youth, Tom was a Boy Scout. He maintained his involvement with the pack at First Congregational Church and he assisted the boys in earning their Eagle Scout badges.
Tom was a lifetime member of First Congregational Church. He served on several committees over his decades of association, most notably the Finance Committee right up to his death. Tom had also served as a church moderator.
Surviving are his children, Marilyn (Alan) Irving of Oshkosh, Nancie (Jeff) Malmquist-West of Sparks, Nevada and Robert (Dana "Gabe") Marquart of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Dr. Michael (Wanda) Marquart, Andrew (Margaret Crevling) Malmquist, Dr. Melissa (Greg) Carlson, David (Sherry) Irving, Dr. Nick (Camille) Malmquist, Casey Malmquist and Patrick Irving; great-grandchildren, Isabella Marquart, Madeline Irving and Michael Malmquist-Crevling; brother, Richard Marquart of Medford, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Knoblock-Marquart of Oshkosh; and sister-in-law, Eunice Reider of Kimberly. His son, James Marquart, preceded him in death.
Deepest thanks are extended to the staff of Evergreen Retirement Community's Garden Heights wing for their attention to Tom's well being.
