Obituary

Troy D. Angwin, age 40, of Long Beach, California, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012, in San Diego, California, from injuries sustained in a tragic accident. He was born on September 27, 1971, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Richard "Dick" and Shirley (Thomas) Angwin. Survivors include his father, Dick Angwin of Oshkosh, one sister, Tracy (John) Foley of St. Paul, Minnesota, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley L. Angwin, and grandparents.

Troy led the Custom Technical Apparel Efforts in the Western United States for Champion System. Recently, Troy oversaw the opening of the first Champion System Experience Center which created a unique buying experience for their clients that include sports teams, clubs, retailers and suppliers. In the past, Troy worked for other bicycling companies including BMC, Wheel and Sprocket, Specialized and Schwinn.

Troy had a unique gift for connecting with people and an infectious smile. Strangers quickly became friends. He was a great story teller and often entertained his friends with stories of his travels including his trips to the Tour de France and other bicycling events. Last month, Troy participated in L'Etape du California ride on the Tour of California's stage 8, from Ontario, CA to the top of nearby Mt. Baldy.


A memorial service for Troy will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd, Springfield, IL, 62703. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will be held after the service. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Troy's memory to University of Wisconsin Melanoma Research (UW Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, Memorial for Troy Angwin/Melanoma Research, 600 Highland Avenue, K4/646, Madison, WI 53792-6164), or Kids on Bikes, (Kids on Bikes, Memorial for Troy Angwin, 600 S. 21st Street, Suite 100, Colorado Springs, CO 80904), would be most appreciated.
