Valerie M. Sprung was peacefully called to her heavenly home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday, November 25, 2023, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 29, 1946, to parents, Dorothy Grahek and Earl Penosa. At age 2, Valerie was diagnosed with Polio, which resulted in numerous surgeries and stays in the hospital throughout her childhood. Despite the challenges of having Polio, she never let the disease hinder her determination to face and lead a normal life; not only did her diagnosis strengthen and develop her into the strong, independent woman she became but also gave her the will and motivation to overcome adversity when placed in front of her.
As a young adult, she met and later married Duane "Dewey" Sprung. They had three daughters: Sheri, Gina, Kristi, and a son Kevin.
Those who knew her, know Valerie's passion and love for cooking and baking for her family and friends, at times recreating her most delicious, memorable dishes and then other times trying out new recipes she may have picked up from the cooking channels/shows she enjoyed watching daily. Valerie also will be remembered for her love of watching Hallmark movies, the thrill she had of going to play Bingo with family and friends, she enjoyed the adventures and rewards of thrift shopping while also searching for treasures from a good rummage sale as well. Many will also recall how Valerie took great pride with her elaborate collection of Christmas and Snowman decorations along with the annual devotion of decorating her house at Christmas time; providing her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends, the most welcoming, festive holiday atmosphere possible, along with all the incredible meals and seasonal desserts she prepared. Valerie always put her family first and above anything else, including herself, even when she faced numerous bouts of ailments with her health during the course of her adult life. Overall, Valerie will be most remembered and cherished by her family for her unconditional, doting love, strength, courage, and affection she always provided; she will also always be looked upon as the maternal rock that guided and steered the family through the difficult, challenging times and of course the many great times we all celebrated together.
Valerie is survived by her children, Sheri Sprung, Gina Sprung (Scott Lewis), Kevin Sprung (Laurie Larson) and Kristi Sprung (David Anderson); grandchildren, Michael Ruby (great grandchildren, Conor, Jakob, Lawson, and Sylvia), Alyssa Lewis, Taylor Lewis, Tawny Sprung (great-granddaughter Raelyn), Kody Sprung and Jack Sprung; she is further survived by her brothers, Frank Grahek II, Ralph (Diane) Grahek, and her long-time best friend, Marcia Lange. Preceding her in death are husband, Duane Sprung; parents, Frank Grahek and Dorothy Meyer-Grahek; brother, Dudley Grahek; sister-in-law, Kathleen Grahek; and daughter-in-law, Michelle Richard (Sheri).
A visitation will be held at Kwiatkowski Funeral Home, 425 Jefferson Ave. Omro, WI on December 9th, 2023, from 1:00-3:00 PM with a Celebration of Life following and beginning at 3:00 PM.
Valerie's family would like to express their admiration and a special thank you to the staff at Aurora ICU for all of their care and compassion during this most difficult time.
