Obituary
Velma Marcella (Coleman) Sowers age 96, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025. Marcy, as she was known, was born in New Salem, Kentucky on March 14, 1928, to parents Roscoe and Maude (Lucas) Colman. Following high school, she married Lloyd Sowers on October 27, 1945, in Stanford, KY. Marcy and Lloyd moved to Wisconsin in 1957 where they raised their children in the Omro and Oshkosh area; they were married for 32 years. Marcy was a faithful follower of Jesus, her Good Shepherd, and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Oshkosh.
A full life that spanned nine decades, Marcy became a mother at age eighteen, a grandmother at age thirty-six, a great-grandmother at age fifty-five, and a great, great-grandmother at age seventy-seven. In 2000 she was able to celebrate her mother ' s 100 th birthday and in September 2024, she held her seventh great-great-grandchild. She enjoyed spending time cross-stitching, sewing, crocheting, reading Guidepost and looked forward to visiting with family. Two of her favorite hobbies were working crossword puzzles and collecting dolls, especially Madame Alexander. She was a skilled seamstress with her treasured creations being the bride doll dresses to match her daughter ' s and granddaughters ' wedding dresses. She will be remembered for her bowl of " grandma" hard candies at the holidays and her big smile; she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Proceeded in death by her husband, Lloyd K. Sowers (1978); sons, Jerry K. Sowers (2004) and William L Sowers (2024). Survived by her children, Joyce (David) O ' Connell of Ripon, WI, Charles Sowers of Oshkosh, WI, Rhonda (Dale) Schoenick of Hilbert, WI, and Amy (Todd) Karkula of Oshkosh, WI; by her sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Seefeld Funeral Home, 1025 Oregon St., Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from 10:00am to 12:00pm with service to immediately follow at 12:00pm. Her final resting place will be at Ellenwood Cemetery, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, next to her beloved husband.
The family would like to thank the staff at ThedaCare and Cherry Meadows Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
