Verna T. Berndt, age 96 of Oshkosh, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2005. She was born on April 20, 1908 in Pickett, Wisconsin a daughter of the late Herman and Odie (Zahn) Mahlke. She married Reuben H. Berndt on May 19, 1928 in Pickett. Verna was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in the Lydia Circle, Altar Guild and volunteered regularly. She was also a member of a home bible study group. During her lifetime she was employed for many years at the Delicious Foods Bakery and also at Ray's and Schoenberger Bakeries. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and had a wonderful memory of remembering friends and relatives with greetings and or baked goods on special occasions.
She is survived by a son, Donald of Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Deborah (Larry) Foltz of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Marie (Kent) Kolstad of Bremerton, Washington, Darryl, Daniel, Aaron and Adam Berndt all of Oshkosh. Great-grandchildren, Damon, Ryan and Luke Foltz of Virginia; Joshua and Caleb of California; Jordan and Rebekah Kolstad of Washington; one great-great-grandchild, Nathaniel of California. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Reuben; a daughter, Gwendolyn; sister, Anita Hyde and brothers, Gordon and Kennth Mahlke.
Funeral services for Verna will be held on Monday, February 14, 2005 at 12 noon at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street with the Reverend Ralph Hanusa officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
