Obituary

Vernon "Vern" L. Bero Sr. has been reunited with his loving wife, Betty following a brain hemorrhage on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the age of 86. He was born December 2, 1928 to the late Charles Sr. and Florence Bero in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He graduated in 1948 from Green Bay West High School and served in the Marine Corp following graduation. Vern married Elizabeth (Betty) M. Barbiaux on September 12, 1953 at Cathedral Catholic Church in Green Bay. He had a long career as a Director of Machinery Design with Gold Bond Ice Cream Co from age 14 through his retirement in 1990. He has been a long time member of the Bridge Point Church of Green Bay. He was also a member of the Green Bay Moose Lodge.Together, Vern and Betty taught Square Dancing for 30 years beginning in 1960. They owned and operated Verbet's Square Dance Shop, and managed The Westernaire Square Dance Center, both in Green Bay. They started the Mill City Cloggers in 1982 and taught clogging for 10 years. After 53 years of marriage Betty passed in 2006. Vern shared his life this past 8 years with a longtime friend, Barb Greene, in a loving relationship. Vern expressed his joy of living through his love of singing and his artistic talent in his many years of woodworking. Vern loved doing things for, and with his family; including camping, square dancing, clog dancing, fishing and playing cards (usually winning). He loved to listen to his children and grandchildren sing and play musical instruments. He enjoyed going to countless concerts, dance recitals and sporting events for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He liked being a "snow-bird", spending winters in Gulf Shores, AL where he sang with the Four Winds Barbershop Chorus and had many special friends. Vern is survived by his loving companion, Barb Greene, brothers, Jerry (Jan) Bero of Green Bay, Bill (Marge) Bero of Oshkosh, Jim (Mitzi) Bero of Sobieski, Gary (Sue) Bero of Green Bay, sisters, Donna VanEgeren of Green Bay, Shirley (Charlie) Drace of Menasha; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert Barbiaux of Green Bay, Jim Irish of Florida, Bonita Behling of Florida and Pat Bero of Green Bay; his five children; Lynn (Vern) Doxtator of DePere, Vernon "Bud" Bero Jr., Michael (Barbara) Bero, Holly Bero and Dave, all from Green Bay, Thomas (Lana) Bero of Marinette; 22 grandchildren, Justin (Victoria), Brandon, Tyler (Jennifer), Jeff, Briana (Cody), Maritza, Mallorie, Willow, Keri (Matt), Trisha (Adam), Zak (Fiancé Stephanie), Kayla, Kyle (Emily), Cassilyn, Joel, Drew (Stefanie), Jacob, Logan, Matthew, Megan (Fiancé Brandon), Haleigh and Cole; 13 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by Barb's children whom he accepted as his own, Teri (Chuck) Willems (sons, Cayden, Collin and Aaron), Lisa Greene (Greg, Derek), Kevin (Julie) Greene. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, his brothers and sister, Ken Bero, Wayne (Jackie) Bero, Cletus Bero, Chuck (CaroI) Bero Jr, Anita (John) Gore. He was further predeceased by aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. To celebrate Vern's life, friends and family are invited for visitation from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm followed by a memorial service at 6:30 pm with military honors. Visitation and service will be held at Bridge Point Church of Green Bay, 2421 West Point Rd, on Monday, June 1, 2015.The family would like to extend its sincerest thanks to the staff of St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice of Green Bay for their care and support.
