Vernon W. Cartwright, age 88, of Oshkosh passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on August 11, 1915 in Oshkosh, the son of George and Anna (Schramm) Cartwright. He married Marie Fox on December 12, 1936 at Zion Church.
Vernon served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at Wisconsin Axle after the war. He owned and operated Vern's Cycle Center from 1952 to 1974 when he retired. In early retirement he worked part-time for Mercy Medical Center in the records department.
He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and enjoyed bowling, golf, fishing, gardening and participating in Senior Olympics.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Marie; his son, Steven (Gloria) Cartwright, Waukesha; daughters, Sondra, Oshkosh and Linda (John) D'Angona, Burbank, CA; sisters, Delores Hedges, Tomahawk and Arlene Polar, Black Creek; grandchildren, Kathryn Toby, Karen (Daniel) Stephany, Stefan D'Angona, Gena (Brian) Camposano, Michael, Sara and Conily Cartwright, Zachary Cartwright and Tasia (Cameron) McIntyre; great-grandson, Owen Stephany; sisters-in-law, Cerella Elmer, Oshkosh, Gwen Cartwright, Brisbane, Australia, Katherine Cartwright, Oshkosh; brothers-in-law, Vernon (Joyce) Fox, Oshkosh and Arnold Fox, Racine. He was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald, Kenneth and Wilbert; sisters, Lorraine Kallin and Viola Buelen.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31st, from 2-3:00 PM with a memorial service at 3:00 PM at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagle Street.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with contributions to the Salvation Army.
