Verona M. Sawitski, 95, was welcomed into heaven on December 9, 2007. She lived a rich full life, and has left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Verona was born in Oshkosh on April 28, 1912 to James and Linda (Hartman) Mueller.
A life-long resident of Oshkosh, Verona attended Sacred Heart School. While working at Buckstaff Furniture Company, she met her future husband, John H. Sawitski. They spent 51 years together raising five children and spending summers at the cottage that the family built on Lake Butte des Morts.
Those who knew Verona appreciated her gift for making visitors to her home feel welcomed and seeing that they left her company well fed. Her home was a "second home" to many of her children's friends and relatives. There was constant activity and an abundance of love to be had there. Her deep abiding faith and spiritual love for the Catholic Church were manifested in her 70 year membership at St. Peter Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Aquinas Club. Verona's many talents included cooking, gardening, and making every holiday an extravaganza.
Verona is survived by her devoted children, daughter, Lois (Phil) Florek; sons, Russ Sawitski, Ken (special friend, Sue Schertz) Sawitski, and Alan (Cheryl) Sawitski; daughter-in-law, Carol Sawitski; grandchildren, Debbie (Claire) Hart, Jeff Sawitski, Tracy (Mark) Kollock, Scott Sawitski, Kevin (Tammy) Florek, Anne (Bruce) Baranski, Elizabeth (Wade) Becker, Sara (Craig) Kaminski, Samantha Sawitski, Robert (fiancee, Carlie Wiechert), Beth (Dan) Fox, Dawn (Jerry) Scholl and by nine great-grandchildren. Preceding Verona in death are her husband, parents, a son, John G. Sawitski, five brothers, Edgar, Norman, Marvin, Leonard, and Kenneth Mueller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter site, 435 High Ave., with Reverend James Jugenheimer officiating. Private family interment services will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the wonderful staff at Pleasant Acres, especially the 2nd floor care-givers, for the love and compassion they extended to "Grandma" and her family.
Mom's devotion to God fueled her strength, and her undying love for her family was evident throughout her life. Her legacy is her dignity, kindness, caring, resilience, humility, and sense of humor, which are reflected in her children, grandchildren, and many hearts that she touched. May her eternal soul find rest and peace. May we who are left behind find comfort in knowing she is with God.
