Obituary

Violet L. "Vi" Brusius, age 93, of Oshkosh, died Thursday morning, January 7, 2009 at Bethel Home. She was born on July 5, 1915 in Oshkosh, the daughter of William and Emma (Schumacher) Wojahn. On July 25, 1915 she was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church, where on April 1, 1928 she was confirmed. A graduate of Oshkosh High School, Vi was employed at Miles Kimball and later worked at King Industry for 32 years before retiring in 1980.

Vi married Raymond "Ray" Brusius on February 8, 1934 and they shared almost 58 years together until Ray's death on January 11, 1992. She was a faithful member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, living out that faith in her daily interaction with family and friends, and on many occasions, with people previously unknown to her. No one was a "stranger" to Vi for long.

A love of cooking and baking always guaranteed the offer of tasty food and drink upon arriving at her door. Vi's home was always filled with the aromas of soups, chili, and other meals made with the ingredients of her garden and canning expertise. Vi had a way of remembering the favorite foods of her continuing stream of quests over the years, making sure they were given the foods they enjoyed the most.

Talented at knitting and crocheting, Vi created many afghans and other items that were given lovingly to individuals. Always a thoughtful, caring, friend and relative to all, her earthly presence will be missed, but her influence will always be a part of the lives of many.

Left to mourn her passing is two beloved sons, Dennis Brusius of Oshkosh and Rev. Ronald (Betty) Brusius of Cape Coral, Florida; a sister, Betty Ives of Oshkosh; four granddaughters, Cathy Merrill of Farmington, Missouri; Ronda Wilbur of Midland City, Alabama; Paula Owens of St. Louis, Missouri; and Krista Stutz of Pasadena, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Preceding Vi in death is her husband, parents, three sisters, Dorothy Juedes Voss, Mildred Smoody, and Lorraine Sager; and two brothers, William and Earl Wojahn.

A worship service in celebration of her life will be held at the Bethel Lutheran Home Chapel, 225 N. Eagle Street, on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with Chaplain David Rumlow officiating. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held following the service. Expressions of sympathy may be given to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church or Bethel Lutheran Home Chapel.
