Walter F. Dettmann, age 73, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, formerly of Caledonia, Michigan, died on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at his home. Walter was born on February 8, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan a son of the late Friederich W. and Eleanor Anna (Schultz) Dettmann. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for and retired from the Mercury Marine Corporation in Fond du Lac. Walter greatly enjoyed boating through the years and helping out others as he could.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan (Greg) Shaffer of Saranac, Michigan; three grandchildren, Angela, Jamie and Gregory; a sister, Louise Posthuma of Kentwood, Michigan and a brother, Donald (Marlene) Dettmann of Wayland, Michigan. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend and former co-worker at Mercury Marine, Dennis Gierke of Fond du Lac.
A memorial service remembering the life of Walter F. Dettmann will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Holy Corners Cemetery in Caledonia, Michigan.
