Wilbur R. "Willy" Westphal, age 84, of Appleton, died Sunday morning September 2, 2007. He was born on March 28, 1923 in Oshkosh to Fredrick and Wilhelmina (Hedtke) Westphal. Willy married Mary Ann Matte on June 25, 1949 in Oshkosh.
Willy was employed by Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Neenah Plant, as a trimmer operator until his retirement in January of 1986. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp in England during WWII. Willy was a member of Oshkosh American Legion Post. He enjoyed time spent traveling, camping, card playing, and car shows.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Westphal of Appleton; two sons, Mike Westphal of Appleton, and Matthew (Alice) Westphal of Neenah; three grandchildren, Richard Westphal of New London, Ashley and Ryan Westphal of Neenah; a great-granddaughter, Brianna; and nieces and nephews. Preceding Willy in death are his parents; eight brothers, Harold, Earl, Harvey, Norman, Roy, Howard, Carlton, and Alvin; and two sisters, Eva Curtis and Dorothy Borchard.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. Entombment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park Mausoleum. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
