William H. Harvey, 79, of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly in the garden on Monday, July 5, 2004. He was born in Portage on August 22, 1924. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ruth Harvey; children, Heidi (John) Stacy and Laura (Ken) Frakes both of Menomonee Falls and Tom (Cindy) Harvey of Brookfield; grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Stacy, Joel (Jill) Stacy, Jeff and Deanna Harvey; great-grandson, Jack Stacy; and brothers, Douglas and Robert Dalsbo. His mother, Margaret Harvey Dalsbo, preceded him in death.
Bill graduated from Portage High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Anti-Tank Co. 145th Regiment and earned the rank of S. Sergeant. He was in the 37th Division overseas and the 106th Division while stateside. Ruth Brill joined him in holy matrimony on August 31, 1946 in Milwaukee. He earned his Bachelor of Education in 1950 from UW-Whitewater and received a Masters in Administration from UW-Superior in 1956.
His career in education began in 1950 as a teacher and supervising principal in Wild Rose. He was the Business Manager for the Oshkosh Area School District from 1960-85. Bill was president and board member of the Oshkosh Senior Center for 3 years and president of the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials in 1972-73. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Oshkosh Post 1908.
The gathering to remember Bill will be held on Thursday, July 8th, at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagle Street, beginning at 3:30 through the ceremony to celebrate his life at 5:00 PM. The United Veteran's Honor Guard will present military honors. Memorials to the Military Veteran Museum are appreciated. Lake View Memorial Park will be his final resting place.
