William H. "Mac" McCrumb, age 66, of Oshkosh, and formerly of Portage, Wisconsin, died Tuesday afternoon, November 30, 2010 at his home. Born on August 24, 1944 in Lansing, Michigan, to Howard and Mary (Lenneman) McCrumb, Bill married Karen McConnell on October 17, 1964, in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Karen preceded Bill in death on November 10, 1998.
Customer service was a big part of Bill's life, with the first 11 years employed by F.W. Woolworth. The next 30 years he was an employee of Ben Franklin Variety & Craft Stores in Portage/Neenah/Oshkosh areas with the last eight years as Merchandizing Manager for the Fox Valley and Northern Illinois area before his retirement. Bill's nieces and nephews knew him as the "candy-man" for supplying Skittles and M&M's for birthdays/anniversaries/weddings and other family gatherings. He enjoyed the sport of curling and served on the Board of Directors of Portage Curling Club. Bill was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic
Church in Menasha.
Left to mourn Bill's passing are his children, Kelly (Don) Garrigan of Portage and Bryan (Lisa) McCrumb of Lorton, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Kyra, Dustan, Kaisey, and Keagan Garrigan, Melissa, Jacob, and Allison McCrumb; his siblings, Karen (Jerry) Swathwood of Manistee, Michigan, Judy (Wayne) Webb of Massillon, Ohio, Lynn (Betty) McCrumb of Lansing, Michigan, Dennis (Debbie) McCrumb of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Mark (Jennifer) McCrumb of Grand Ledge, Michigan, and Michelle (Mike) Smith of Holt, Michigan; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Francisco of Florida; a brother-in-law, Raymond McConnell of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a sister, Debbie McCrumb.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Grand Ledge with full military honors. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Sunday, December 5, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street in Oshkosh and also on Wednesday, December 8, from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the church in Grand Ledge, Michigan.
