William J. Polzin, age 70, of Oshkosh, passed away at home surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday, September 7, 2013. Bill was born in Oshkosh on September 26, 1942, the son of Lester and Irene Polzin. He attended Black Oak Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School and was a 1960 graduate of Oshkosh High School. Bill was baptized by Rev. E.H. Kuhlman, confirmed by Rev. I. Harold Kuester of Peace Lutheran Church and married the former Lois Wiechman by Rev. Clarence Koepsell at Grace Lutheran Church.
Bill served his country in the US Army Reserves from 1960 to 1968. Bill had worked at Morgan Doors and Romlow's Tavern, which he purchased in 1965. He operated the tavern until 1997. After the sale of the tavern, he worked for Packaging Services, Inc., until they closed, then Bemis Specialty Films, until his illness required him to quit. After recovering from his illness, he worked for the 20th Ave. Y.M.C.A., until his illness took over again. In Bill's healthy years, he loved gardening, golfing, polka music, gospel music and walking with his dog..
Bill is loved and will be missed by his wife, Lois (Nee Wiechman); children, Edward (Sue) Polzin, Shelley (David) Richard and Amy (Bradley) Schoening; grandchildren, Paul, David and Jeremiah Richard, Rachel and Jennifer Polzin and Madeline Schoening; sister, Sandra (Anthony) Piencikowski; many cousins, other relatives, friends and his canine friend, Tanner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Irene Polzin; and many aunts and uncles.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska St. Oshkosh, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Duquaine officiating. Bill will be laid to rest at Lake View Memorial Park.
Special thanks to God Almighty for His Grace, many who have prayed for Bill and Lois, Dr. Gremminger and the caring staff at the Michael Wachtel Cancer Center and the staff at Mercy Medical Center.
