William S. Potratz, age 49, of Oshkosh, died Friday evening, November 2, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on March 30, 1958 in Oshkosh to George and Arlene (Jones) Potratz.
Bill had been a long-time resident of Park View Health Center, as the result of a car accident in 1973, while in high school. He was proud of his recent move into Homes for Independent Living, where he was able to be more involved in the community, like the job he took at Lakeside Packaging. Bill enjoyed funny movies and having a beer on Sunday afternoons. He relished participating in the wheelchair races of Special Olympics and the camaraderie with the other athletes. Bill was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.
Survivors include his siblings, Susan Berg of Oshkosh, Thomas (Anne) Potratz of Brookfield, Diane (Thomas) Nelson of Reno, Nevada, Robert (Marilyn) Potratz of Oshkosh, Linda (Dr. Mark) Karrels of Janesville, James (Margaret) Potratz of Oshkosh, Alan (Danni) Potratz of Waukesha, Mindy (David) Smith of Oshkosh, Nancy (Andrew) Laatsch of Highland Park, Illinois, and Timothy (Heather) Potratz of Weyauwega; 6 aunts, Dorothy Flanagan, Margaret Potratz, Geraldine Potratz, Shirley Potratz, Ruth Potratz, and Beulah Potratz; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Bill in death are his parents; a sister, Margie Potratz-Butler; and a brother, Roger Potratz.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Joel Olsen officiating. Interment will be in Omro Union and Junction Cemetery. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Monday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
