William A. Smith, age 82 of Oshkosh died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Aurora Medical Center. He was born the son of Frank and Nettie (Haulotte) Smith on June 23, 1928. Bill married Marion Leslie on August 2, 1952 and she preceded him in death on November 9, 1994.
Bill was employed with the Oshkosh Police Department as a Police Officer, owned Bill's Mobil Service and retired from the Building and Grounds Department at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh after many years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and in his free time he enjoyed going to the Fireside Theater and hunting with his son and grandson. One thing Bill was most proud of was having a hand in the building of a cabin up north. He attended First Baptist Temple of Oshkosh for many years.
Left to love and cherish Bill's memory are his children, Jeffrey (Roxann) Smith of Waupun, LuAnn (Jimmy) Messing of Oshkosh, Terry (Robert) Staerkel of Oshkosh; his grandchildren, Nicole (Scott) Smith, Jason (Becky) Smith, Megan Smith, Katie Messing, Lauren (fiancé Kevin) Messing, Mackenzie Messing, Matthew Messing, Robyn Anderson, Kelly Anderson; great-granddaughter, Kahlan Smith; his sister, Ann Winkenwerder and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother, Leslie Smith.
Funeral service for Bill will take place at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. The family will greet friends at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
